Getting the furniture right for your event is so important for the experience of your guests. Having a conversation with your marquee hire supplier early on regarding the theme and the look you prefer is crucial to getting the furniture right. The furniture will play a big role in how your marquee will look. Every event requires a different furniture requirements and the age demographic of the guest list will also impact what type of furniture you’ll need too.
Speaking on behalf of all marquee hire companies – most companies will have stock of various standard and most common styles of furniture however marquee hire companies will have built relationships with event furniture hire specialists who have a wider range of choices.
When researching your marquee hire company of choice be sure to go through with them the options you have available to you – if you are looking for a certain style of furniture in mind, any good marquee hire company will be able to give you more options than just the stock they hold themselves.
Certain themed events require more specialist furniture than what your typical marquee hire company has in stock. Very good marquee hire companies should have relationships with specialist event furniture hire suppliers to provide you more options than just what they stock.

Formal Seated Events
For more formal events, the most popular chair is the Limewash Chiavari chair. These come in a distressed wood finish usually with a creme pad. These pads are also available in a variety of different colours. The wood finish can also be available in white, black, gold, silver and a clear opaque finish too.
The UK’s most popular event chair – the Limewash Chiavari Chair, Creme pad
Chiavari chairs can be finish in gold or white like the examples above. Also available in black, silver and clear opaque finish.
These lightweight chairs can be stacked when not in use, and come as standard with a cream-coloured pad. If you’d like a different coloured seat pad, they do come in 14 different colour options.
Rustic Style Furniture
For a more rustic and natural look, the Rustic Wooden Crossback Chair is the perfect choice. these come with a beige seat pad as standard and work perfect with Rustic Wooden Oak Trestle Tables. These tables are 6′ x 3′ and seat 6 guests each with 3 sitting on each side. The chairs require no dressing to them and the tables do not need cloths. Sometimes a small table runner can be added to the tables, however the bare wood is what matches up with a rustic theme perfectly.
Rustic Oak Trestle tables with Wooden Crossback chairs go hand in hand together to create a great rustic vibe.
Formal Tables
For more formal events, a five-foot six round table, which seats 10 are ideal. These can have white linen cloths added to them, too. They do take up a little more space in comparison to rows of trestle tables, so if space is at a premium you may want to consider rows of trestle tables inside your marquee.
5’6” Round Tables with linen cloths – seating 10 guests per table
6′ Trestle tables are great for head tables or events where longer rows of seating is preferred. These tables seat six with three side, and trestle table arrangements tend to take up less space than round tables, but tend to be a little bit more expensive after adding table linen, as more tables are required to seat your guests than round tables.
Trestle Tables are used for head tables for weddings and can be placed in rows – which is the most efficient way of seating guests however some do feel trestle tables are less sociable than round tables in comparison.
Informal Round Tables
Smaller three-foot or four-foot round tables are great for more informal events, which typically seat four to six per table. These are great for events where guests are predominantly standing however some guests may want to sit down and eat and you’d like to avoid a wedding/informal feel to your marquee.
Smaller, 4′ Round tables seating 6 are an ideal choice for more informal events but still require some seating.
For Informal Events
For more informal events I would strongly advise some tall poseur tables, which are a must for all standing events. These serve well as really useful tables for guests to rest their drinks on. If you’re offering catering such as canapés they are useful for guests to leave unwanted plates when they are finished making a quick and easy clean up operation for the catering staff.
They can be placed around the marquee or situated outside if you’re planning an outside drink reception area.
At Abacus, we offer a glass & chrome poseur table as standard however there are many specialist furniture hire companies than can bring in come other forms of poseur tables to suit a specific theme.
We offer a glass poseur table as standard – with grey & black bar stools to go with them. This option gives you additional seating options without the need of formal chairs & tables which can ruin the look of a certain style. However many different styles of poseur tables are available to you such as the above examples.

LED Infinity Coffee Tables
Adding LED infinity coffee tables serves a colourful addition to any chillout area. These go hand in hand with low level sofas or LED cube seats – these are also perfect for birthday parties, bat & barmitzvahs or any informal event where a little rest for guests is needed.
LED Infinity Coffee Tables give the illusion they are floating in mid air with the infinite light loop thanks to a clever internal mirror system
Outdoor Chillout Area
If you’d like an outdoor chill-out seating area, why not think about adding some rattan or bistro seating areas? Having this with some nice, outside lighting, such as festoon lights, to take advantage of the warm summer evenings, and hay bales or cable drum seating work as a rustic alternative, too.
Outside chillout areas are great for weddings etc – anything from straw bales to some rattan seating alongside some nice lighting such as festoon lights work well.
Low Level Sofas
If you’re having an informal party or perhaps Ibiza theme, white 2/3 seater low-level sofas work as a fantastic addition to your theme as well as some low level coffee tables.
Low level sofas start a great chillout area look – usually with some low level coffee tables. If budget is a consideration LED cube seating is a cheaper alternative to sofas. For the price of one sofa seating 2 or 3 people you could get 6 LED cubes seating one person each making the LED cube seating option more value for money.
A more contemporary style sofa – such as the Marrakesh sofa (white or black) are also available from specialist event furniture companies such as Rio Lounge.
Informal Day bed styles of furniture are great for informal events or Ibiza themed parties too
